Benefits of Jump Rope Workouts

A jump rope workout is a good way to break out of your normal routine and get some exercise like a kid. Its probably been since grade school that you've actually taken out a rope and skipped to your heart's content. I remember having contests with the other kids to see who could skip the most jumps without missing. Those were fun days.

Jump roping is the foundation exercises for a boxer. Of course most of us are not boxers but we can be in just as good as shape as the champion of the world. How great would that be? You can use jumping roping for any type of sport whether it be for tennis, golf, running, or bicycling.

Try to rest for only as long as you jump. So if you jump for 30 seconds, rest for 30 seconds. By the way, resting does not mean stopping your movement. It's OK not to jump rope, but stay in motion by marching in place. Depending on your personal fitness level you should be able to work up to one minute of jumping and one minute of resting.

You get a full body workout. Yes, the target muscles are legs and glutes, but the abs are involved to keep the body stable during the jumps, the back is engaged as are the shoulders, wrists and arms -- both upper and lower arm. With this one simple workout, the entire body gets in on the action.

Don't jump too high off the ground. One of the biggest mistakes people make is trying to soar as high as they can on every jump. This is counterproductive and will tire you out quickly. You should be on the balls of your feet, twirling the rope quickly, while only getting an inch or two off the ground.

Jumping rope is a very inexpensive workout plan that can help you to reach your target heart rate easily. It is simple to begin and doesn't require you to have a lot of room. Taking your workout with you if you travel is easy; just toss your rope into your bag.

As you become used to the movement and to exercise, your fitness jump rope workout will become easier. This is a signal that it is time to make some changes. Just as your mind needs variety to stay engaged, so too does your body. When an exercise program becomes too routine, your body adjusts and the workout is no longer as effective.

Some benefits of a jump rope workout can also be seen as a potential area of risk. Because jump roping involves jumping, it is an ideal aerobic exercise because you can reach your target heart rate and increase your jumping speed as you improve your fitness level.

The advantage of the rope-less jump rope workouts, is that anyone can do them. You modify the intensity based on your personal fitness levels. If you want to start slow and have a low impact work-out, that is easy to achieve by simulating the jumping motions.
