Carnitine is commonly also referred to as L-canitine in the medical world. Carnitine is a nutrient  composed of  amino acid derivatives which the body manufactures so that it can be used to convert fat into energy. It is the liver and kidneys that produce this nutrient and it is mostly stored in the brain, heart sperm and the skeletal muscles. The human body is capable of making all the carnitine the body requires but at times certain  health conditions and medications can lead to its deficiency. That's when supplements of carnitine need to be taken. Doctors have been using carnitine in the treatment of many conditions like heart problems, in fatigue, hypertension, liver conditions and diabetes.

Exercisers, sports people  and athletes find that carnitine is a great energy booster for it not only converts the fat to fuel in the body but it also helps to raise specific  enzymes that help in metabolism of carbohydrates, starches and sugars. People suffering from angina benefit from supplements of carnitine. AIDs and cancer patients find carntine to be useful in helping control these degenerative diseases whikle it also helps prevent muscular atrophy. Carnitne is useful in protecting the heart from damage especially when patients suffer from heart attacks and spasms, that actually cut off the oxygen supply to the heart.

People suffering from low thyroid problems  require carnitne supplements as carnitne helps in preventing weight gain and increase energy levels. Patients with kidney problems who undergo dialysis find that carnitine supplements boosts their tired and weak condition.

Carnitne thus finds its use in treating many medical conditions.
