Cramping During Pregnancy

Most pregnant women have some degree of cramping during pregnancy that is usually the result of digestion problems, stretched muscles and ligatures, or Braxton Hicks contractions.

One of the worst things that a woman can experience is cramping during pregnancy. This is a common occurrence, but you need to know when to determine whether it is regular cramping or if it is something more serious that your doctor should know about.

Some women experience mild cramping during the first two or three weeks of pregnancy. They even mistakenly take the cramps as a sign of the monthly periods. It is very important for you to take note of your body and be able to deal with the problems that come with the cramps.

Leg cramps are sharp contractions which occur in your calf muscles. This starts to happen usually in the second or even the third trimester and they last just a few minutes. There is not specific proof to support them, but there are a number of theories as to why leg cramps during pregnancy start to appear.

Throughout your pregnancy, the greatest general cause of cramps are the ligaments which encompass and sustain your uterus. While your newborn develops, these ligaments expand. At what time you alter positions, you will every now and then feel these ligaments cramp up on one or both sides of your stomach or near your back.

Cramps occur when the muscle contract suddenly, more in your feet, thigh or fingers. Many experience them at night, when sleeping. I had it when pregnant, it lasted just for a few seconds each time, but very painful. Now that I am reaching middle age and it appears sometimes.

The ligament's that encompass and sustain your uterus is responsible to cause cramps in your body. The expansion of ligaments happens as the baby develops inside your uterus. Whenever you change your positions you ligaments will expand and cramps will develop inside your body.

Leg cramps are a sudden tightening of muscles, which can cause intense pain. It is not uncommon to experience leg cramps during pregnancy, particularly in the third trimester. According to Danforth's Obstetrics and Gynecology, almost half of all pregnant women suffer from muscle spasms in their calves, with cramping more frequent during the evening.

Many women will experience mild cramps during the first few weeks of pregnancy. In fact, a lot of women think that they are getting ready to start their periods because they feel cramping. This article will teach how why you cramp in early pregnancy and when to call your doctor.
