Effective Natural Remedies to Treat Scurvy

Scurvy is caused by a prolonged deficiency of Vitamin C (ascorbic acid) in the human body. Scurvy is also known as Barlow's disease, Moeller's disease or Cheadle's disease.

The persons that don't consume regularly fresh fruits or vegetables are more affected by this disease then others.

The main symptoms or scurvy are: spongy or bleeding gums, pain in joints, subcutaneous hemorrhage, liver spots, general weakness and poor capacity of healing the wounds.

Because scurvy occurs due to a deficient diet it can be cured easy enough using natural remedies. A proper intake of vitamin C can easily resolve the problem. However scurvy must be treated even from the first symptoms to avoid the complications that can occur.

A treatment with Vitamin C is fully recommended in treating scurvy. The persons that suffer from scurvy can buy Vitamin C tablets or syrup from the chemist's. The regular consumption of vitamin C can reduce the deficiency of ascorbic acid in the body and helps the patient to get rid of scurvy permanently.

Fresh fruits contain Vitamin C. for example citric fruits contain a high level of vitamin C. so a diet rich in oranges, lemons and grapefruits is fully recommended for treating scurvy. Watermelons cantaloupes are also of a great help in scurvy treatments. Vegetables like spinach, cabbage, broccoli, green peppers and tomatoes also contain a large amount of Vitamin C. so all these foods must be regularly consumed by the persons that suffer from scurvy.

Indian Gooseberry also known as Emblica officinalis and amalaky is the richest food in Vitamin C. eating an amalaki fruit daily can reduce Vitamin C deficiency and help the patient to get rid of scurvy for ever. The patient should eat at least 4-5 amaliki fruits daily. This fruits represents the quickest way to replenish ascorbic acid deficiency.

One of the most efficient ways to make use of amalaki in treating scurvy is to grid some dry amalaki and to mix the powder with the same quantity of sugar. The two ingredients must be mixed thoroughly. Have a teaspoon of this powder with milk before going to bed. Take this treatment a few days consecutively.

Squeeze a lemon and mix the juice with 1 teaspoon honey. Put this mixture in a glass of warm water and drink this water two times a day. This remedy will heal scurvy very efficiently.

Green leaf vegetables contain a high amount of vitamin C so they should be consumed on regularly bases as salads and as garnish for other foods. Mix one teaspoon dry gooseberry with one teaspoon of milk and one teaspoon of milk. Take this remedy three times a day. Every time prepare a fresh mixture.

Potato is another valuable food in treating scurvy. 100 mg of potatoes contains about 17 mg Vitamin C so it is fully recommended to be consumed by persons that suffer from scurvy.

Mango powder is also a very good treatment for scurvy. Mango powder is prepared from green mangos. Take a green mango and remove its skin. Cit this skin in pieces and let it dry. Then grid it until you obtains a fine powder. Put this powder in your meals.
