Get the Uses of Basil

Basil can be easily started from seed or can be brought indoors at the end of the growing season. If you are bringing basil indoors, choose the most robust plants. Before the first frost, dig them out of the garden and pot them up in fresh potting soil. Basil can also be grown in pots outdoors and treated the same way when bringing them in for winter. Check for insects and if there is an infestation, spray with a soap and water spray. Gradually reverse the hardening off process by keeping the pots out of direct sunlight for about a week. The plants will become acclimatized to the lower light conditions they will experience indoors. Bring them inside and provide the conditions they need to continue growing.

Make scented candles by adding a drop of to the pool of melted wax around the wick. Light a candle; blow out after a few minutes. Add oil to melted wax. Do not add while candle is lit as the oils are volatile. Freshen sneakers and shoes. Place cotton balls dabbed with geranium, lemon or tea tree into shoes overnight.

Bush Basil Also known as Sweet or Common Basil, it is native to the tropical countries such as India and Africa. Basil has significant religious importance in India and is an essential part of many religious rituals. Lemon Basil Bushy in appearance and grows to about two feet tall, it has a strong lemony fragrance.
Camphor Basil an annual shrub, it grows to about 5 feet in height. The leaves have a camphor-scented fragrance and can be used to protect woolens. Camphor basil can be used in tea to combat stomachaches. Tree Basil With fuzzy, lime-green leaves, tree basil is an excellent remedy for colds, and fevers.

Power of seed of basil when taken with water gives great results in menstrual disorder. Root of basil is powdered and kept overnight in water, if taken daily early morning proves to be very beneficial in diabetes. Basil juice drops are very effective in earache. Basil juice when mixed with ginger juice is very effective in abdominal disorder in children. Powder of basil leaves added with saunth (dried ginger) and sugar when taken with hot water is a famous remedy for fever.

Dried basil is used for its fragrance in potpourris and sachets. It also is used in herbal bath mixtures and to add luster to the hair. Fresh or dried basil is used in cooking to flavor Italian, Mediterranean, and Thai dishes. Fresh leaves are used in tomato and pesto sauces. Basil is good with veal, lamb, fish, poultry, white beans, pasta, rice, tomatoes, cheese, and eggs. It also is used in vinegar and for tea. Basil is said to have some medicinal qualities.

Headaches some analgesic properties have been discovered in Basil and are a great assert in providing remedy to various pains that might happen in the body. It has been seen that Basil is very helpful in relieving the head aches. It has certain properties that helps in releasing spasm in the muscles hence is extremely helpful in relaxing the body.
