Healing Hands: Learn Lomilomi Massage Therapy in Maui, Hawaii

The lomilomi massage therapy is an ancient form or therapeutic treatment which originated from the Polynesian islands and is still widely used and taught in Hawaii . The technique is based on the Polynesians basic philosophy that everything seeks harmony and everything seeks love. And that would explain the fundamental strokes which are performed gently yet deeply into the muscles.
Although a massage practitioner uses his fingers, palms, knuckles, elbows, forearms, feet, knees, and even stones and sticks, the distinct characteristic of this exotic massage is the continues flowing strokes used to caress and relax the body. Thus, it is sometimes called as the loving hands massage.
The long continues strokes actually stimulates the energy in the body while the caresses help relax the body totally. The Hawaiians correlate their memory and beliefs with the energy stored in the cells and thus believe that by encouraging the flow of total energy in the entire body, coupled with the loving caresses, one is not only relaxed but is assisted of freeing himself from old beliefs, patterns and behaviours which tend to limit one self. In short, Hawaiians also look at things in terms of energy flow. Thus, they believe that a belief or idea can hamper the flow of energy, similar to muscle tension.
Physically, lomilomi is performed in order to relive stress and tension as well as encourage blood and lymph fluids flow which eventually stimulates the elimination of wastes and toxins from the body. However, the lomilomi is performed with the belief that the method helps unblock the energy flow while at the same time redirecting the flow of energy, which not only helps the physical body but the mental, emotional, and spiritual aspects of one's being as well. This massage technique is not solely focused on the physical healing but healing in its totality.
Lomilomi is a traditional Polynesian massage which may border to a ritualistic approach for it was originally used for four reasons. Firstly, it was used as a method of healing by the master healers of the islands. Secondly, it was used by chief rulers for relaxation as well as to aid in elimination and digestion. Thirdly, it was used by families as a restorative massage. And lastly, it was used by martial arts masters of the islands.
Ideally, the massage is best performed or experienced in a tranquil ambiance. The massage may actually depend on the assessment of the performing therapist of his patient's condition or may depend on the patient's intention for going through the therapy.
Suffice it to say, there is no particular sequence on how the massage is particularly performed. It's a spontaneous treatment which involves a mutual connection between the therapist and his patient.
It would not be impossible for an individual to yearn to learn this particular form of healing arts, especially with its exotic touch and rhythm.
