Healing in Warmed Stones

During the cold months is a very popular time for a hot stone massage. Many people complain about achy bones or muscles that are due to the cold temperature outside. A lot of people during this time turn to certain things to warm their bodies such as tanning beds, tea and cozy blankets. They may not even know about a hot stone massage, so it is up to the massage therapists to recommend it to them.

The use of different massage techniques, together with the stones, produces energy and releases areas of blockage. The alternate use of hot and cold stones encourages healing. Hot stones ease stiffness and encourage circulation and help to move waste materials through the body. Cold stones reduce inflammation and swelling. They cause blood vessels to constrict, stimulate the nervous system and draw waste along the body.

The three most commonly used massage oil are grape seed, olive and rose oils. Most therapists use their oil of choice during massage session. Oils are used as a lubricating source for a hot stone massage. The element of aromatherapy will definitely enhance a massage session. Lavender oil is also a good choice because it promotes relaxation. Massage stones comes in a variety of shapes, sizes and packages. Basalt stones are generally used for a hot stone therapy. It can absorb and retain heat very well.

Massage some oil on the right leg. Rub the hot stone on each side of the leg and then place small stones between each of your client's toes on his right foot. Repeat the process with the left leg and left foot. Go to your client's arm, and use the effleurage stroke to coat it with oil. Massage the arm area by using medium-sized flat stones. After that, put a warm stone on your client's palm. Do the same thing with the other arm.

Express to them that the stones are not scorching hot, but rather warm and soothing. It is best to explain to them that the procedure is safe and very comforting. You should explain to them that the rocks are used to rub the entire body down in a slow and relaxing motion. You can also most likely guarantee that if they try this massage once, they will probably return back for another one.

Clean the stones properly before and after every session. This process is particularly important because aromatherapy oils are used during the massage session. You will need a brush and a bacterial soap to clean the stones. Ensure that the stones are dried completely so they will not become tarnished.
