It is also called Taleeque (Hirudotherapy), Phlebotomize, Irsalaq, is a treatment using medicinal leech to relieve inflammations, to correct" imbalances of the four humours" to encourage regrawth of blood vessels after surgery of delicate areas such as a mucous membranes.
Historical back ground of leech therapy
The use of leeches (alaka) in medicine dates as far back as 3,500 years ago when they were used for bloodletting in ancient Egypt. All ancient civilizations practiced blood letting includes Indian and greek civilizations. Leech treatment were very popular during the meddle ages. In ancient greek history, blood letting was practiced according to the humeral theory, which proposed that when the four humors, blood, phlegm, black and yellow bile in the human body were in balance, good health was maintained. An imbalance in the proportions of these humors was believed to be the cause of ill health. Records of this theory were found in the greek philosopher Hippocrates. Collection in the fifth century B.C bloodletting using leeches was one method used by physicians to balance the humors and to rid the body of the plethora, in Al-Khanoon it is cupping and Venesection, leeches can apply any where but it should be apply where cupping and Venesection not applicable.

In 1980, medicinal leech therapy got a big boost by plastic surgeons who used leeches to relieve venous congestion, especially in transplant surgery. In this situation, leeches are used to drain the local blood and decompress the pressure within the gratted limb otherwise at risk of necrosis develops as a complication.
