Home Remedies for Arthritis

Arthritis is the condition that involves damaging of the joint in the body. There are more than 100 different forms of arthritis. Most commonly known are rheumatoid arthritis, psoriatic arthritis, and septic arthritis. The factors that may result in arthritis are old age, excessive weight, previous injury, occupational hazards (sitting at one place for long time), high-level sports, and illness or infections.

People with arthritis suffer pain on a daily basis. Many of them are guided by their doctor to take medication s/he recommends. Some people just are happy with over the counter medicines. As with everything, these medicines can have side effects that are negative. You might reduce your arthritis pain but poor digestion could result. Again, if you are talking to your doctor, he can also help with that. There are also home remedies for arthritis which might be helpful.

Arthritis isn’t a new disease and people were treating it before synthetic allopathic medicines were available. One of these home remedies for arthritis that has been around for hundreds of years is garlic! Garlic can help reduce swelling an inflammation. This doesn’t mean you have to eat raw garlic. You can buy garlic pills!

Other home remedies for arthritis include drinking potato juice as this can be good for pain relief. Again, you don’t have to juice the potatoes if you don’t want to as it is available at health stores. Rice in a bag can also help with swelling and pain. Put the rice in a bag (even a sock will do), close it so the rice doesn’t escape all over the place and place in the microwave for a short time – a minute should do it. Then use the rice bag to put against areas where you have swelling.

Often people get relief from soaking in a hot bath – sometimes a small amount of vinegar is added for extra pain relief. You can also apply hot (or cold) packs that you can easily purchase to the affected area.

Another thing you probably have handy in the kitchen is cinnamon and honey. Take two spoons of honey and a small teaspoon of ground cinnamon and dissolve in a cup of hot water.  If it’s too sweet, just put less honey in. If the cinnamon taste is too strong, reduce it to half. You can drink this every day or you can even use it as a tincture to place on painful and/or swollen areas of your body. For the tincture you mix one part honey to two parts of warm water and add a small teaspoon of cinnamon powder until it forms a paste which you then massage onto the painful areas.

Another tip for relieving pain is to use honey and apple cider vinegar.  Just mix the two ingredients together in warm water and drink it down. If you don’t like the taste, just add some juice, like cranberry, for example.  Just like with the cinnamon and honey, you can use the honey and apple cider vinegar as a tincture to apply topically.

These tips and tricks for home remedies for arthritis are simple and inexpensive. They are also readily available. It’s advisable to to consult your doctor if you want to do any of these as he can often advise you as to any side effects that might occur if you are taking meds as well.
