Homeopathy For ADHD - Getting The Facts And Deciding If This Is Right For Your Child
There is a lot of debate going on about the fact whether homeopathy for ADHD works at all and whether there is evidence to show that it has an effect beyond placebo.
In defence of homeopathy, The Society of Homeopaths in the UK have published the results of trials which actually do show that homeopathy can work beyond the placebo effect. They say that this shows that it is not 'snake oil'. Here are the results they published. Up to 2007, 134 randomized controlled trials (RCT) were published in peer reviewed medical journals. A total of 59 of these trials were positive in that homeopathy was effective beyond the placebo effect. Only eight of the trials were negative and the remaining 67 were inconclusive.
But before we decide whether homeopathy for ADHD could be a valid option, we need to bear two points in mind which will also make us reflect on the whole placebo debate. The first is that the Annals of Medicine have now published a report that says that 95% of the RCT trials have never revealed what is in placebos, thus casting terrible doubts over the whole medical trials procedure. While the medical world reels from this shocker, we should ponder the other placebo doubt. That is that any medical treatment whether allopathic, homeopathic, alternative or whatever has to take into account the placebo effect. Nobody knows the answer to that!
The two facts I have mentioned above will dog the whole debate about whether any medicine is effective for many years to come unless the placebo effect can be overcome. I doubt it!
Let us return to the subject of homeopathy for ADHD. As this type of treatment works by treating the whole person, not many comparisons can be made with allopathic medicine. We can say though that as conventional medicine will treat symptoms only, there are bound to be side effects. A homeopathic remedy for ADHD has no side effects at all and there are no health risks either. As far as I know there is not one study which will deny these facts about side effects.
As regards the actual symptoms, a homeopathic remedy for ADHD will actually help to restore a mind body balance so the symptoms will be no longer present at all. Hyperactivity, restlessness and impulsiveness will all be much reduced while concentration and focus will improve.
Parents have to decide whether homeopathy for ADHD is valid or not and the only way of knowing is actually trying it. I know from personal experience that it can work very well in bringing relief of ADHD symptoms and really helping children and families to cope. Why not check this out on my website below?
