It was not so long ago that people had to accept the symptoms of aging that appeared on the surface of the skin. Most skin treatment products of years past that held out hope of actually turning back the clock, without exception, turned out to be selling false hopes, because they were snake oil treatments.
Things have changed in recent years however and the new changes came about through a greater understanding of the actual dynamics of the skins aging process. It wasn't until researchers were able to understanding what was happening below the skins surface to form wrinkles and age spots that they were able to begin to develope products that worked.
One thing that was discovered through extensive research, was that wrinkles on the thin skin of the face known as “crows feet” are caused by the thinning of a layer of cells and connective tissue that is located between the dermal and the epidermal skin layers. This dermal-epidermal junction becomes thinner as a person ages and the thinning is also hastened by exposure to the sun.
Products have now been developed that function in the skins substrate on a cellular level to stimulate collagen production in the dermal-epidermal junction. Other substances in these products encourage this layer of cells to retain fluids as well. So, while these skin treatment products can't repair the damage that has been caused by aging or sun exposure, they can eliminate the symptoms of it.
Other products have also now been developed that can actually remove the pigment from your skin that has accumulated in discreet areas that you recognize as age spots. It was discovered that the skin has a natural regulating process that maintains your skin tone and color. In age spots, this tone and color regulating process has malfunctioned and this is why your skin can't remove the pigment in age spots on its own.
