How to Remove Chicken Skin Naturally at Home

There are a good number of persons worldwide, who are affected by a certain skin condition, wherein a redness accompanied by small bumps appears on the surface of the skin, similar to acne, except that these red bumps appear all over the body, especially on the upper arms.  If this is characteristic of your skin, then you are disposed to an ailment called Keratosis Pilaris or Chicken Skin.  It is a totally harmless skin condition, which however gives an unpleasant appearance to the skin.

Don't Worry : You can get rid of Chicken Skin using home remedies.

Keratosis Pilaris or KP as it is called, is a result of collection and hardening of excess keratin (skin cell protein) in the hair follicles of the skin.  The pores are blocked, resulting in dilation of the blood vessels immediately under the skin, thus causing redness.  It is hereditary in nature and is more prevalent in cold climates, where the skin tends to be dry on account of lower levels of moisture in the atmosphere.

Treatment for KP is simple, and involves exfoliation of the skin, along with moisturisation and reducing the inflammation.     A number of exfoliating creams and lotions are available in the market, popular among them being Retin-A,   which is a form of Vitamin A acid.   Another widely used cream is made of a combination of benzoyl peroxide and Adapalene,  which apart from being an exfoliant, is also anti-inflamatory in nature, and being less costly, is more in demand.    Triamcinolone,  a corticosteroid,  is another alternative which is used in the treatment of both eczema and KP.

Certain sulfur compounds present in creams and lotions also help in the removal of KP.

The above chemicals tend to leave scars which can be removed by simple home remedies such as application of a paste of granulated sugar and curd or cream.  Essentially, the Lactic acid in the curd or cream acts as an exfoliant as also a moisturizer.  Other methods include application of Vitamin E Oil or coconut oil.   Omega3 fatty acids present in fish will help lubricate the skin and regulate the formation of keratin,  if added in the diet.       Rubbing or scratching the affected areas should be avoided as it tends to increase the problem.
