Ice Cold Water not good for Health, says Ayurveda

The ancient science of Ayurveda provides a wealth of information on how people can take care of their health using natural ways. According to Ayurveda, ice cold water or drinks hinder the process of digestion and slow down the Jatharagni (digestive fire). As a result, food is not digested properly, leading to the formation of sticky toxic material (ama) in the small intestine. Other effects include under nourishment and blockage of body's channels (srotas), which can further lead to hundreds of diseases.

Ice cold water is very bad for patients because their digestive fire is already weak due to low levels of immunity. In fact, you will be shocked to see cold water and drinks being served to patients in many hospitals across the world. We may have been trained to drink cold water from childhood or our tongue may enjoy a sip from the ice cold drink, but it is totally useless for the body.

Ayurveda says do not put anything useless in your body. It is like putting diesel or kerosene oil in a petrol car. It won't do any good, but will cause trouble in the engine and the car will ultimately break down. Using the wrong thing at the wrong place does no good to anyone.  Fortunately, we can buy another car, but we can not buy another body. Therefore, it is important that you do not destroy your body and take care of it by serving it with the right food items.

According to Ayurveda, you should always drink water at normal room temperature. If you live in very hot climate, you can drink slightly cool water. And the best is to drink lukewarm water. It helps in enhancing the process of digestion, clears the accumulated toxins, opens up the blocked channels, and balances Vata and Kapha (Ayurvedic humours representing Air and Water). If you are suffering from Pitta diseases (such as skin rashes, burning sensation, hyperacidity, etc.), you should boil the water properly and then let it cool down naturally to room temperature. This water is extremely beneficial for people who have Pitta-related problems.

Finally, it is important that you maintain the requisite water levels in your body. Seventy percent of our body is made up of water and we lose a lot of it through breathing and perspiration everyday. Therefore, it is imperative that you drink at least eight glasses of water everyday. Do not replace water with black tea, coffee, alcohol, or cold fizzy drinks. According to Ayurveda, if you keep your body well-hydrated and supply it with the right amount and kind of water, you will be able to keep yourself healthy throughout the year.

According to Ayurveda, the skin has six layers, located not only superficially but extending to the deeper levels of the body. Most skin treatments never reach the deeper layers of the skin. As a result, the symptoms disappear temporarily, and the disease is not rooted out permanently. Ayurveda always tries to root out the disease by treating it specifically according to its cause. As the disease is deep-seated it is difficult to fix the problem quickly.
