Retin-A is frequently used to improve the appearance and surface of the skin. It produces a mild, apparent peel of the epidermis. Retin-A is a synthetic imitative of naturally occurring vitamin A which may work by its effect on the way cells differentiate and mature. Retin-A has effects on the both the superficial (epidermis) and the deep parts of the skin. The major benefit is to decrease the effects of sunlight caused aging by increasing the speed with which the surface cells are replaced.

Acne treatment and Retin A

Retin-A (tretinoin) is a powerful acne treatment medication. Retin-A is a vitamin A derivative that accelerates skin cell production. It can be used to treat soft to moderately severe acne, and is especially effective for those with comedonal acne (many blackheads and whiteheads). Retin-A can also improve the appearance of dark spots, rough skin, and skin damaged by overexposure to the sun. Retin-A should be applied once a day, at bedtime, to the skin where acne appears, using enough to lightly cover the affected area. The liquid form may be applied using a fingertip, gauze pad, or cotton swab.

Retin A and Wrinkles

When your skin is subjected to the sun for a long period of time, you look older faster. Wrinkles and sagging are some of results of aging. One of the common treatment for wrinkles is Retin A. Retin-A is reduced fine lines and wrinkles also with regular use. It works by increasing blood flow and stimulating skin cells called fibroblasts to produce new collagen, (the protein in skin cells that keep skin smooth). This can help to eliminate tiny wrinkles and make deep wrinkles less noticeable. It is recommended that a moisturizer be used, and in addition a high factor sunscreen.

Retin A and Pregnancy

Retin-A during pregnancy are any more likely to problems. Retin A is recommended to be avoided during pregnancy because of the risk of other members of the vitamin A family for causing birth control and family planning defects. However, use of these drugs is discouraged by pregnant women or women trying to conceive and should be thoroughly discussed with your health care provider and dermatologist.

Difference Between Retin A and Renova

Renova is usually given for wrinkles,hyperpigmentation and Retin-A for acne. Both medications do have Tretinoin in them. Renova is available in 0.02% and 0.05% concentrations of tretinoin as an emollient (water in oil emulsion) cream. Retin-A is available in 0.1% and 0.
