Lakhlakha (inhalation): a regime in unani system of medicine
Definition
An aromatic liquid prepration kept in a wide-mouthed bottle and used for inhalation. It is of two types, a) Direct inhalation, In this type remedy directly applied to the affected area. b) Indirect inhalation, in this type the person's surroundings are treated with the chosen scent.
How does it work?
Our senses have a powerful influence on our bodies and minds. The scent from essential oil are believed to activate olfactory nerve cells inn the nasal cavity, which then sed impulses to the limbic system the area of the brain associated with emotion and memory. During inhalation the vapors are inhaled where the blood absorbs the essential oil molecules into the lungs. Those molecules circulate in the whole body for several hours before getting eliminated. The skin the essential oils directly into the blood stream through the pores in the skin.
Indications
Heaviness in head, headache, migraine, grahing of hair, hairfall, pain in eyes, otalgia, locked jaw, stiffness in neck, lack of taste, weak teeth, hoarseness of voice, wrinkles, acne, poor circulation, obesity, broken capillaries and sinusitis.
Contraindications
- After administration of enema and purgation
- After intake of milk/ curds/ honey and alcohol
- Over exhausted person
- Angry, furious person
- Anaemia
- Unconsciousness

Drugs used for lakhlakha
Basil lemon grass, lemon lime, candlenut nutmeg (javithri), ardamom (ilaichi), palm sugar, celery pandan leaf (karafs), hilies (filfilsiyah) peanuts, cinnamon (darchini), pepper, cloves salam leaf (loung), coconut shallots, coriander seeds, slaked lime (bujha chuna), cumin (zeera), turmeric, garlic (lahsan) and galangal ginger (khulunjan).
