Male hair loss is the most ordinary type of hair loss. Male pattern baldness develops in most men at a few stage. It usually takes 15-25 years to go bald. Male pattern hair loss is an inherited condition, caused by a genetically determined sensitivity to the effects of dihydrotestosterone, or DHT. DHT is believed to shorten the growth, or anagen, phase of the hair cycle, causing miniaturisation of the follicles, and producing progressively finer hairs. Sex steroids (androgens) specifically, dihydrotestosterone – play a role in this form of balding. About 95 percent of all cases of hair loss are the result of male pattren baldness (androgenetic alopecia).
