Natural Treatment For Scabies - How to Kill Scabies Without Insecticides

Many people wonder if there is a natural treatment for scabies which avoids the use of the potentially dangerous insecticides which are commonly prescribed. Although effective, the reported side effects include itching, burning, dizziness, nausea, and seizures.

Life threatening conditions such as leukemias and Non-Hodgkins Lymphoma have also been associated with certain insecticides-indeed one of the most commonly prescribed has now been withdrawn from use in over 40 countries.

Scabies is a skin condition caused by a mite which burrows its way beneath the skin, laying its eggs. It is highly contagious and often passes through family groups or close-knit communities like schools and nursing homes with alarming speed. Knowing how to kill scabies is vital as it is important to stop the transmission of the mite, which passes through either direct contact or can be passed on from clothing, bedding or towels.

It is extremely important to to treat all family or group members at once or the mite will simple keep passing from the untreated person and the whole cycle begins again. Scabies can be found anywhere on the body, but the most common areas include areas of skin folds such as the armpits, between the fingers and toes, behind the knees and on the inside of the elbow. Other areas include around the waist, in the genital region, on the shoulder blades and buttocks and on the underneath of the feet.

Although the actual mites are difficult to see with the naked eye, you may see tiny lines which are actually the burrow lines under the skin. You may have intense itching, which is often worse at night, and tiny fragile blisters. Often sufferers can scratch so much that they damage the skin surface and sometimes the sores become infected.

One popular natural treatment for scabies involves the use of tea tree oil. Often known the the "wonder oil", tea tree oil is much more potent than the most powerful antiseptics yet is perfectly safe for external use. To use it effectively for scabies, you should add around 20 drops of tea tree oil to a medium-depth bath and soak the whole body, leaving just the head out, for around 20 minutes. This can be repeated twice a day for up to a week. To supplement this, it can also be beneficial to apply some tea tree oil directly to the worst affected areas by gently rubbing with a soaked cotton wool pad. This has the double benefit of soothing the sore, scratched skin and the undiluted tea tree oil will permeate the skin surface, helping kill off the scabies.

Scabies is an unpleasant condition-not only in terms of the symptoms it presents but also the thought of having something actually living beneath the skin is unpalatable.
