If it is determined by your doctor that surgery is not necessary, be sure to review all treatments he feels will be best to relieve pain and gain strength without causing further damage. Whatever the treatment, it is strongly recommended you rest the shoulder and stop any activity that causes you pain. You may also take anti-inflammatory drugs such as Advil or Aleve to reduce swelling and relieve pain.

A rotator cuff injury will range from an irritating throb which never disappears, to a debilitatingly laborious injury that requires surgery to alleviate. Torn rotator cuff symptoms, although clearly recognised, are so often dismissed. Understanding the symptoms can assist the patient deal with the drawback of a torn rotator cuff on their own, or allow health professionals to advise on the most helpful treatment program.

A rotator cuff injury exercise program is the best approach for a long lasting solution to any shoulder joint condition. This is because over the counter or prescription drugs can only alleviate the symptoms of pain and inflammation, but not cure the root cause. A rotator cuff is made up of 4 different muscles with tendons strategically attached to the shoulder joint bone, the shoulder blade (Scapula), and the Humeral Head (top of the Humerus, the arm bone).

Muscles and tendons can be irritated or damaged, and as a result, a rotater cuff injury can appear. The shoulder injury may occur suddenly after a specific traumatic injury, such as an acute fall on an outstretched arm and hand. Alternatively, the tendon and muscle inflammation may be due to a chronic injury that gets progressively worse over time because of daily activities that aggravate the shoulder muscles.

A program of rotator cuff strengthening exercises is the best solution as a preventive or rehabilitative measure against injuries, like tears or dislocations, and against disorders, like Tendonitis, Bursitis, Impingement and Frozen Shoulder. It is a fact that the rotator cuff is often neglected by the general public or even sport people, who should have all the interest in having a strong and conditioned cuff.

Manipulation is the breaking of the adhesions performed by the surgeon moving the patient arm under general anesthesia due to the high pain threshold. It is not surgery proper as no incision is made, but still requires general anesthesia, so it is a decision not to be taken lightly. However, it is very effective. A full rehabilitation program of rotator cuff exercises must follow manipulation for full recovery and to prevent a relapse (more on that in a moment).

A physical therapy program based on specific rotator cuff exercises is the most effective treatment to rehabilitate an injured shoulder, to strengthen a weak cuff and to relieve pain. The shoulder joint is an incredibly complex mechanism that allows for the widest range of movement of any joint, while the rotator cuff surrounding it stabilizes the ball and socket joint keeping the arm bone safely into the shoulder.

These exercises are a lot different from usual shoulder exercises and they need to be performed with little or no resistance, depending on rehabilitation phase. Abduction and rotation exercises should be performed consistently at home, preferably several times a day, not just at the therapist surgery, as regularity and dedication will go a long way toward full recovery. These exercises for rotator cuff injury can also be used as part of an over all shoulder strengthening and conditioning program, not just for rehabilitation following surgery, a tear or a disorder.

A rotator cuff injury therapy based on specific exercises is the best approach for a fast rehabilitation from injury or disorder. Physical therapy program should be the core aspect of an injury recovery program along typical remedies like anti inflammatories. There is a variety of reasons why a shoulder injury may occur, from occupational reasons to sport activities.

A rotator cuff impingement treatment should include not just anti inflammatories but also a set of specific exercises for the rotator cuff to reduce inflammation naturally, cut down recovery times and get rid of drugs. A program of physical rehabilitation will restore the rotator cuff to the supple and flexible joint it was before, without painful clicking and snapping.

Pain is the most common symptom to a variety of shoulder disorders and injuries. It can be sudden and traumatic as in the case of a dislocation or a large tear, or a subtle ache growing worse with time and showing up typically at night time, as in the case of Bursitis, Tendonitis, Impingement and Frozen Shoulder.
