The specialists recommend dandelion for treating liver diseases, even in extreme cases of cirrhosis. This herb is also used for pancreas, stomach, spleen and kidney afflictions. It is also used in cases of anemia and it can help reduce arterial tension. Dandelion is an important source of potassium and because of this property the herb is considered a natural diuretic. Trough diuretic action, dandelion mixtures have a powerful effect in the treatment of hypertension, cardiac insufficiency, atherosclerosis, gout and rheumatism. Remember that in cases of hypertension and cardiac diseases, the dandelion mixtures must be prescribed only by a doctor and the treatment must be supervised by him.
There are recent studies showing that a several weeks cure with dandelion stalks and leaves, together with an adequate alimentation, effectively alleviates diabetes, allowing those who use insulin to reduce progressively the dose of insulin and, on doctor’s advice, renounce using it.
Dandelion tea is recommended in cases of obesity, liver diseases and for regulating the blood circulation and increasing appetite. Tea made up from dry leaves is a good laxative. Dandelion infusion is prepared out of one or two spoons of dry leaves, stalks and roots mixed in one cup with boiled water. For increasing the diuresis it must be consumed two or three cups a day. For stimulating the appetite, half a cup of tea must be drunk before each meal. For biliary dischinesis, the phytotherapy recommends a decoct made up of two spoons of leaves and roots mixed in one cup of water and boiled for 10 minutes. Two spoons of decoct must be swallowed once every four hours. For stimulating the diuresis a decoct can be administrated. In this case the decoct is made up of two spoons of roots boiled in one cup of water for 15 minutes.
The juice made up from dandelion leaves is very useful in cases of constipation and it can increase the biliary secretion. Increasing the biliary secretion can cause the change of metabolism. The dandelion juice is a powerful tonic for a lazy liver caused by the consumption of alcohol or severe diet.
The green part of dandelion can be used in several recipes and even in the wine making process.
