Differentiating syndrome to decide treatment

Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified application of Huangqin Decoction (Scutellaria Decoction) in combination with Xiebai Powder (Powder for Clearing away Heat from the Lung) composed of 10 g of Sangbaipi (Cortex Mori Radicis ), 6 g of Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae ), 10 g of Digupi ( Cortex Lycii
Radicis), 10 g of Jinyinhua ( Flos Lonicerae), 10 g of Lianqiao ( Fructus Forsythiae ), 10 g of Juhua ( Flos Chrysanthemi), and 3 g of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae).
Modification: In the case of severe itch accompanied by aversion to cold, add 10 g of Jingjie (Herba Sehizonepetae), 6 g of Bohe (Herba Menthae) (to be decocted later) and 3 g of Chantui (Periostracum Cicadae) ; in the case of headache, add 6g of Chuanxiong (Rhizoma Ligustici Chuanxiong) and 10 g of Manjingzi ( Fructus Viticis) ; in the case of skin rhagas with bleeding, add 6 g of Mudanpi (Corter Moutan Radicis) and 6 g of Chishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) ; in the case of dry stool, add 6 g of Shengdahuang (Radix et Rhizoma Rhei) and 10 g of Quangualou ( Fructus Trichosanthis).
Syndrome of dampness and heat of the spleen and stomach
Main symptoms and signs: Local erosion of the nasal vestibule with exudate which is dampness and not easily dried, mild pain, severer itch, red tongue with yellowish and greasy fur, thready and weak pulse.
Therapeutic methods: Clearing away heat and re- moving dampness.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Chushi Weiling Decoction (Umbellate Pore Decoction for Removing Dampness of the Stomach) composed of 6 g of Cangzhu ( Rhizoma Atractylodis ), 3 g of ttoupo (Cortex Magnoliae Officinalis ), 10 g of Zhuling (Polyporus Umbellatus), 10 g of Fuling (Poria), 10g of Zexie (Rhizoma Alismatis), 6 g of Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae), 10 g of Huashi (Talcum), 6 g of Chenpi (Pericarpium Citri Reticulatae ) and 3 g of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae ).
Modification: In the case of stickiness inside the mouth, add 10 g of Huoxiang (Herba Agastachis ) and 10 g of Peilan (Herba Eupatorii) ; in the case of severe
local itching, add 10 g of Kushen (Radix Sophorae Flavescentis ), 10 g of Baixianpi ( Cortex Dictamni Radicis ) and 10 g of Difuzi (Fructus Kochiae).
Syndrome of blood deficiency transforming into dryness
Main symptoms and signs: Longer course of illness, rough, dry and pachynsis skin of the nasal vestibule with rhagas and itch, more crusts and squames, lichenification of skin, reddish tongue with whitish and thin fur, thready and weak pulse.
Therapeutic method: Nourishing yin and blood.
Prescription and drugs: The prescription used is the modified Dihuang Yinzi Decoction (Rehmannia Decoction) composed of 10 g of Shengdihuang (Radix Rehmanniae), 10 g of Danggui (Radix Angelicae Sinensis), 10 g of Baishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Alba), 15 g of Nanshashen (Radix Adenophorae), 10 g of Maimendong (Radix Ophiopogonis ), 10 g of Huangjing ( Rhizoma Polygonati), 10 g of Yuzhu (Rhizoma Polygonati Odorati) and 10 g of Gancao (Radix Glycyrrhizae).
Modification: In the case of rhagas with bleeding, add 6 g of Chishaoyao (Radix Paeoniae Rubra) and 10 g of Cebaiye ( Cacumen Biotae) ; in the case of severe itch, add 10 g of Danshen (Radix Salviae Miltiorrhizae) and 10 g of Lfidouyi (Testa Phaseoli Radiati).
Other therapeutic methods
Simple and proved recipes
Decoct 10 g of Huangqin (Radix Scutellariae ) and 10 g of Huangbai ( Cortex Phellodendri) for oral administration, one dose a day. It is applicable to nasal vestibulitis at the acute stage of attack.
External therapeutic methods
Apply a bit of Goldthread Paste on the affected part each time, three to four times a day. It is applicable to nasal vestibulitis with local dryness and rhagas.
