A massage isn't the same without aromatic massage oils. With todays fast pace life, many people succumb to the pressures of stress. Massage is one of the best ways to fight stress naturally and for those who regularly depend upon a great massage to unwind, using scented massage oils is a vital part of the experience. Though many people like to have a massage with oil because it is more relaxing, oils were first used to assist in the massage process. Oils make the skin softer and allow the hands to move freely. However, now there are many essential oils that are used due to their inherent qualities and therapeutic properties in addition to their fragrance. There are numerous massage oils and blends that you can create to ensure that your massage is a truly aromatic experience.
Massage oils may be purchased or you can create your own favorite scented blends. You can purchase essential oils at your local health food store and combine them with a carrier oil (like Olive or Sweet Almond) and make your own great massage oil blends. Essential oils are derived from herbs, leaves, roots, and plants and are the liquid essence of the plant. They are extremely potent and though they are natural, they may be very strong for the skin. Therefore all essential oils are diluted in a carrier oil to ensure that they are gentle on the skin. The best way to determine which essential oils you should use on skin is to read the label on the bottle. The label will tell you if the particular oil that you are interested in is harmful to the skin.
Certain oils or fragrances are associated with certain effects and when the principles of Aromatherapy are used, you'll find that your massage is a pure escape from the pressures of life. In addition to using massage oils, you can also light a scented candle or use an aromatic diffuser to thoroughly enjoy the benefits of your massage. You can also choose to use essential oils for their inherent healing qualities. For example, Cedarwood oil is useful in the treatment of acne as it has antifungal and antibacterial properties, Lemon Oil is good for treating oily skin and helps fight cellulite, Orange oil is used for restoring skin balance and bringing a sense of calmness to the mind. It is refreshing and helps bring the body and mind into balance.
To create your own massage oil, simply add between eight to ten drops of your favorite essential oil to one ounce of olive or sweet almond oil. Always make certain that the essential oil that you choose is safe for contact with the skin. Some of the most common essential oils used in massage oil include: orange, rose, tea tree, chamomile, lavender, sandalwood, myrrh, jasmine, neroli, and patchouli. If you prefer, you can warm the massage oil before using it. By experimenting with different oils, you will soon create your own favorite blend that will be as relaxing to your muscles as it is pleasing to the mind.
