The Effects Of ADHD Drugs On Children - Why We Must Choose A Safer Option To Protect Our Kids

Posted: Jan 08, 2011 |

The effects of ADHD drugs on children is a major concern from the FDA down to every parent in the nation. The reasons are simple. Psychotropic drugs such as Ritalin and Adderall are made from amphetamines. There are no long term studies on these drugs which are given to children at a very tender age.

We should not be surprised that there is a confidential report at the FDA which states that these drugs taken over a long period could actually lead to drug dependency. Perhaps Wikileaks will be able to reveal more about this in the coming months. That would be helpful to know exactly what is going on in the pharmaceutical jungle which is raking in enormous profits and has not really been hit by the recession at all.

There are other alarming reports too numerous to mention here. But the one conducted in The Netherlands has stuck in my memory as being particularly alarming. This was an enormous study carried out on 250,000 subjects who had been taking amphetamine drugs. The percentage of those subjects who had had fatal cardiac events were three times higher than those who had never been on these drugs. Now these subjects were adults but we all know that the FDA is very worried about the effects on the cardiac health of children and this report would seem to suggest why! It also explains in part the black box warnings on all these drugs.

We have read over and over again about the effects of ADHD drugs on children and these are all well known from loss of appetite to stunted growth and sleep challenges. But there is another worrying aspect which is that the pills will never teach skills.

Yet the American Academy of Pediatrics has recommended that any medication must be in the framework of a broader more comprehensive program which must include behavior modification. Yet parenting skills in whatever form are ignored or even criticized. Pills will not teach skills but the nation is still prescribing these drugs in enormous quantities. Is anybody listening out there?

If you are a concerned parent, why not look at a much safer alternative so that you can stop all this worry about the effects of ADHD drugs on children. The medical establishment scorns homeopathic remedies for ADHD as nonsense and as highly diluted substances.

But as many thousands of parents testify, they can and do work in restoring mind body balance in a holistic way. They know and have seen that there are no side effects or long term health risks at all. Why not investigate this further and get wised up on what the medical establishment does not want you to know.
