The Use Of Alternative Health Therapies

Conventional treatment is changing and alternative health therapies are being introduced and used. New lines of treatment are seen to be combining mainstream medicine with alternative treatment when it comes to healing. Some healing techniques that conventional medicine does not have is present in alternative therapies. Though the following list is not complete here are a few: diet fads, massage, music therapy, herbal medicine, faith healing, folk medicine, naturopathy, homeopathy, chiropractic and 'new age' healing. The above treatments are resorted to instead of conventional medicine with a confidence that a disease will be cured.

You can gain a sense of control over your health through alternative health therapies that improves general quality of life by making you feel better about yourself. One feels calmer when pressure, stress, insomnia, nervousness and despair are reduced. They reduce some of the side effects which are normally noticed in the usual cancer treatments and also help in reducing some of the symptoms like poor appetite, tiredness, pain, sickness, diarrhea, constipation and breathlessness.

Often used together with conventional medicine, alternative therapy can tend to mask pain which may hide the actual very serious underlying problem. Today there are cancer support groups and others who offer free or at a very low charge, alternative therapies; several hospices and hospitals are beginning to provide alternate therapy for cancer care, along with conventional treatments of radiotherapy and chemotherapy for cancer. These therapies are now used by many cancer patients to support themselves in their fight against cancer. However, alternative health therapies shouldn't be viewed as an alternative to be used instead of orthodox medicine, but it should be used as an extremely valuable support which recognized the spiritual and emotional aspects and physical aspects.

There is an increase in the use of alternative health products, Americans use a lot of herbs and vitamins and spend about billion every year on alternative health products. In a study conducted by Davis, Eisenberg, Phillips and Tindle in 2005 it is specified that complementary and alternative therapies are used approximately by 72 million people in America. Also indicated from these studies is a figure of more than billion per year spent on out-of-pocket for these therapies according to Herman, Craig, & Caspi, 2005.

It is important, however, for best results that the alternative health therapy providing the most effective treatment be used. Also the patient must use the therapy one is most comfortable with. Individual therapies such as acupuncture, massage, aromatherapy, reiki, reflexology, homeopathy and hypnotherapy have been successful in treating people Motor Neuron Disease and helping them adjust well with their lives. Before you consider any of the alternative therapies that are available, it is always a very good idea to consult with your physician, it is also important that you double check that any treatment that you take in addition isn't going to adversely affect any of the current treatment programs that you are on.

You should certainly consider discussing with your physician or the health teams before you decide to integrate any of the alternative therapies with your existing list of treatment programs. Find out where the treatment is available, at your clinic or hospital or then though the doctors own practice. Maybe they will be able to recommend some precise practitioners or therapies as more doctors are convinced that in today's society, complementary medicine has a place. For many today, alternative therapies are helping them cope and manage the effects of conventional treatment by the reduction in the feeling of anxiety and feeling the return of a certain control of their own lives.
