Tinnitus Symptoms, Types and Treatment

Tinnitus is a medical condition that causes a person to experience constant ringing sounds that do not go away easily. Tinnitus is also often referred to as a symptom of a larger problem since this medical problem is often associated with more serious problems such as hearing loss. Tinnitus is also known as ear ringing or ear buzzing and there are many causes for ear ringing.

Ear ringing tinnitus is caused by damage or problems with your inner ear. This is usually caused by exposure to loud noise and medication cannot do anything to stop it. Home remedies will by treating the underlying cause of the noise.

Abrupt physical changes or alterations in the veins or arteries in your neck or skull can cause this type of tinnitus. The veins typically causing this are known as jugular veins and are the returning mechanisms for the blood pumping from your brain to your heart. If these veins are altered it could lead to problems with blood flow at the middle of the ear, which causes noises or sensations in the ear. Often this occurs during pregnancy.

Tinnitus is a symptom associated with many forms of hearing loss. It can also be a symptom of other health problems. Roughly 25 million Americans have experienced tinnitus. Some cases are so severe that it interferes with a person's daily activities. People with severe cases of tinnitus may find it difficult to hear, work, or even sleep.

Tinnitus is not like most disorders and is not actually a disease. It is essentially a symptom of other health issues. Inner ear tinnitus can present a variety of symptoms and could point to the root of a serious medical condition. Clicking sounds can be one symptom and occurs when the stapedius and the tensor tympani - the two muscles of the inner ear contract in rhythm for a short period of time.

One of the most common treatments for this condition is through Tinnitus Retraining Therapy or TRT, a broadband noise to treat tinnitus. This training the ears to listen to soft levels of sounds for a given period of time everyday, this will help in their tolerance to sounds. The doctor will first identify the level of loudness discomfort level and through that, they can pattern the sound treatment until you achieve a tolerable level.

Pulsative tinnitus is very uncommon and usually, patients with this tumor experience other simultaneous sounds different from the pulsatile noise produced. These sounds persist even after removal of tumor. This condition is called subjective tinnitus. If a patient is exposed on a sound that is no longer hearable, still they can hear the sound. On the other hand, should the same patient be asked to focus on their own tinnitus only, they can hear the sound even if the noise is very loud.
