Toenail Fungus Treatment - Tea Tree Oil Remedy

Toenail fungal infection is a common condition in which, the toenail gets infected with micro sized living fungus. Any fungal infection is generally caused by fungi called as 'dermatophytes'. These fungi live on the dead skin and the hair on the skin. Such infections are also labeled as ringworm but different names are just referred to the parts of the body where those infections attack.

Toenail fungus is tinea corporis and it lives on the skin around and underneath the toenail. The Tea tree oil contains chemicals known as terpenoids that are believed to be having medicinal properties. Another useful ingredient Tea tree oil contains is cineole. Tea tree oil kills the microorganisms that are resistant to some antibiotics and if applied locally, it can be very effective antiseptic and anti-infective for fungal infection. Tea tree oil has also been practiced curing to kill bacteria in the mouth before the dental surgery and to lessen the mouth irritation that is caused by dental procedures. In oral candidiasis, Tea tree oil has proven results when used as gargling. Oral candidiasis is nothing but a fungal infection of the mouth and throat and hence, it can also work on toenail fungal infection.

One can use Tea tree oil alone or with some other essential oil as combination. Using Tea tree alone can help healing the newly detected toenail fungal infection. In other words, uncomplicated and toenail infection on the initial stages can effectively be treated with Tea tree oil and when it is more advanced, it can be treated by using Tea tree oil with combination of olive oil or lavender oil or apple cider vinegar. To use these oils, one can take cotton-ball and can dip into oils before applying onto the affected area. If you are using Tea tree oil as single oil, you can use eyedropper to take and put onto the affected area. Once the application is over, do not forget to make the area dry after sometime.
