Using Garlic to Cure Athlete's Foot

Garlic has found its place among vampire lore as an effective repellent of those dastardly creatures of the night. Aside from its repute as vampire repellent, garlic can also be used to ward off other creatures that may come to prey on us human beings, namely bacterium, viruses, fungi and other parasites that are lurking out there.

Garlic is loaded with sulphurs and allicin which make it a powerful broad spectrum antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral, and anti parasitic herb. For thousands of years, people have been using the cloves as a virtual cure all and immune system booster. Garlic's popularity has spanned different ages, cultures and continents and it remains popular today because of its potential as well as its availability.

One parasite that garlic can help people get rid of are the fungal agents that can cause athletes foot. Here are several way in which you can employ garlic in order to get rid of the itching and buring that comes with this common foot ailment.

Topical application

After washing and thoroughly drying your feet, rub in a few drops of garlic oil onto the affected areas. You can get garlic oil by breaking open garlic supplement capsules. To get better results, rub and massage the oil into the affected foot.

You can also use raw garlic in much the same way. In fact, using garlic in its raw state will actually increase its potency and effectiveness. For even better results, try using organic garlic which has been shown to have even greater fungal fighting power than regular garlic. When applying the garlic, be aware that it will sting a bit, but it should also help take care of the problem.

Here is a traditional Chinese cure for atheletes foot involving garlic. Steep a few crushed cloves of garlic in olive oil for a couple of days, then strain out the solid parts. You can then use this as a topical application.

You can also place a couple of crushed cloves into a big bowl of warm water and then soak your feet in it. This footbath should also help alleviate your athlete's foot. And, after you are done, find a vampire to throw the mixture at.

A word of warning

While using garlic as a topical is an effective way to get rid of athlete's foot, be aware that garlic is a rather pungent herb and the odor from your topical might linger for awhile. It is best to apply it before going to bed so that it has time to wear off before you go to work or play the next day. Of course, if you happen to be a you know what hunter, then ignore this warning and use it whenever you want.

Side note:

Clinical studies involving a isolated compound called Ajoene which is found in garlic has been shown to completely cure athlete's foot.
