What is Acupressure?

Acupressure is a traditional Chinese medicine technique that was taken from acupuncture.  With acupressure, physical pressure is applied to various pressure points with the use of the hands, elbows and other blunt devices as opposed to acupuncture where needles are used and inserted into the skin

It started thousands of years ago in China as evidenced by artifacts that acupressure could even have dated since Stone Age.  Acupressure offers a lot of effective benefits in treating and reducing symptoms of sickness and other health related sickness.  Further, it has a proven track record as evidenced by its long-term use of the Chinese.

Acupressure can be safely practiced by you on yourself!  Just follow the guidelines of a professional acupressure practitioner.  Learning to do acupressure by yourself is a big plus because you can practice this to supplement professional treatment.  Pressure should be appliede slowly and gently because if you do otherwise, it can also cause detrimental effects especially on the abdominal area.  If correctly performed, it boosts circulation, reduces tension and pain plus enables the body to relax.

Special care and caution is required in applying acupressure on pregnant women, burnt and injured patients so as not to aggravate their delicate conditions.

Acupressure is used to help reduce post-operative nausea and vomiting in children and nausea in cancer patients undergoing chemotherapy.  It strengthens the immune system while promotig wellness.  It was also noticed that acupressure is more effective in treating low back pain compared to physical therapy.  For trauma and pre-operative care patients, acupressure has proved to lessen fear and anxiety for them.

Aside from the above-mentioned ailments, acupressure can also help to remedy the following ailments:  tension headaches, migraine headaches, jaw pain, toothaches, earaches, neck and shoulder pain, wrist and arm pain, backache, hip pain, knee pain, ankle pain, foot pain, colds, flu, sore throat, sinus infection, loss of voice, allergies, anxiety attacks, nervousness, depression, insomnia, fainting, hiccough, angina, heart palpitations, high blood pressure, constipation, diarrhea, heart burn, PMS, dysmenorrhea, hot flashes, morning sickness, bed-wetting, incontinence, urinary retention, nose bleeding, itching, asthma, hangover and decreased libido.  Moreover, it enhances memory and concentration.
