What is an Effective Anxiety and Depression Natural Remedy?

An anxiety and depression natural remedy has several benefits to consider that make it an attractive alternative. Natural remedies are non-prescription and readily available.

Unlike many prescription drugs, they have few or no side effects and can be used long-term without risk of addiction. And you'll not see an FDA "black box" label warning of increased risk of suicidal behavior on a natural remedy package.

So for anxiety and depression treatment without drugs, natural remedies have some advantages over commonly prescribed medications. But do they work? Keep in mind that natural remedies like herbs were in use long before the current pharmaceutical approach came into being.

To answer the question; many clinical trials have shown that natural remedies are as effective, or more so, than commonly prescribed drugs. To be fair, there is some variation in the research findings.

A lot depends on who funded and directed the study and the type of supplements used. I notice that for the herb, St John's wort often there is much emphasis placed on excessive or dangerous side effects. Usually the type of St John's wort used in the study is a "standardized extract". It is known that standardized herbal extracts can increase the risk of adverse side effects.

Standardized herbal extracts are made by using harsh chemicals to extract the active ingredients of medicinal herbs. This manufacturing process violates the integrity, balance and therapeutic effect of herb while increasing the risk of side effects or harm to your health.

The herbs Kava Kava and Ginkgo Biloba have proven to be harmful when processed by standardization. This casts a shadow on natural medicine as a whole when the manufacturing process is at fault.

So, when choosing an anxiety and depression natural remedy the manufacturing process used makes a difference in the result you'll experience. The St John's wort I've used long-term without side effects is processed using a "full spectrum" method approved by the Materia Medica in dealing with herbal medicine. The Materia Medica is the standard herbal medicine protocol developed throughout history and defines acceptable practices in dealing with holistic remedies.

One alternative may be to consult a natural health care provider. Naturopathic doctors, herbalists and other natural medicine practitioners have access to higher quality supplements than you will find at your local supermarket.

If that is not an option, you can research herbs yourself. The higher quality herbal remedies are made by companies that have control over every aspect of production in their own manufacturing facility. These will give you the best results.
