What is Qigong Yoga Exercises?
I recently asked a room of over 100 people (from various sources) to raise their hands if they had heard of yoga. All present raised their hands.
Then asked to raise their hands if he had heard of Tai Chi - almost all raised their hands. Finally, he asked them to raise their hands if they had heard of Qigong - only four raised their hands!
So do not worry as the vast majority of people in the West, you've never heard of Qigong.
Chinese language is very complex and one word can have several different interpretations. But for our purposes here. We can translate Qi / Chi means energy and Gong / Kung means work. Thus, a literal translation of which is Qiqong is energy work.
In short, Qigong is the art of deliberately controlling the vital energy. The vital energy or Qi is the force that keeps him alive and I and all our body systems functioning.
Qigong combines gentle movements usually external, coordinated with the breath held in a meditative state of mind. I say usually because with a history of more than 5000 years, it is understandable that there are many different schools and styles of Qigong.
The strong Qigong is 2 times:
1. It removes blockages to the harmonious flow of energy through the meridians (energy flow) of your body, thus restoring health. If these blockages are physical, emotional, mental or spiritual in origin, it makes little difference to the effectiveness of Qigong.
2. Once the energy blockages are removed, Qigong can improve the flow of energy through the meridians to promote vitality and longevity.
Qigong is the oldest of the five main branches of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM), the others are:
1. Accupunture - inserting needles into specific points on the meridians (which flows through your qi / chi / travel energy) to stimulate the removal of energy blockages and restore the harmonious flow of energy.
2. Tuina - Chinese therapeutic massage. Bright problems with muscles or bones. If you suffer from aches and pains tuina can be effective in relieving pain.
3. Herbs - after thorough diagnosis, a TCM practitioner will prescribe a mixture of herbs to help restore the harmonious flow of energy.
4. Diet - not your typical Western diet!
Qigong requires zero investment in athletics or equipment. It is easier to learn than Tai Chi and less strenuous than yoga.
If you have 10-15 minutes a day you can practice Qigong.
And in case you're wondering. Qigong and Chi Kung are different spellings of the same thing.
