What to consider for provision of antenatal care

The confirmation of your pregnancy is a time of pure happiness and joy, when you can spend some time cherishing the excitement of being pregnant. As soon as you know that you are expecting a baby, you will have to consider whether you want antenatal care which is provided by the National Health Service or to attend a private clinic. Antenatal care is free for all women through the NHS, but as resources are limited you will receive basic care that you need to ensure the health of yourself and your baby up to the age of six weeks old.

Appointments for antenatal care under the NHS are limited and may not be convenient, especially as your partner may find it difficult to obtain time from work. A private clinic will have appointments to suit you, at the weekend and in the evening so that you don't have to miss work, although you are entitled to paid time off for appointments for antenatal care.

Antenatal classes can be very basic and just concentrate on what to expect before, during and after the birth. Private clinics may offer exercise classes or yoga to help you to stay fit and healthy throughout your pregnancy. Parenting classes may not be offered at your NHS hospital, whereas a private clinic will usually offer classes. Here at Innermost Secrets we offer private parentcraft sessions, either in a class or on a one to one basis, to help you prepare for the birth of your baby and life after the birth.

Scans and other tests during pregnancy are offered routinely but occasionally you may require the reassurance of an extra scan, or need an appointment with your doctor for confirmation that all is well. A private hospital can offer all the facilities, reassurance and help you need.
