A: Hi Yamen -

According to the PMI.org website:

A four-year degree (bachelor’s or the global equivalent) and at least three years of project management experience, with 4,500 hours leading and directing projects and 35 hours of project management education.
(http://www.pmi.org/en/Certification/Project-Management-Professional-PMP.aspx
)

These 4500 hours don't necessarily need to be obtained in a professional capacity. They can also be gain through volunteering on committees outside of work where you have initiated, planned, executed and controlled projects. You should be able to analyze your college graduation project and identify a subset of hours that can apply to the 4500 requirement.

When I applied for the PMP exam, I had the same issue and didn't have 4500 of project management experience AS a DEDICATED project manager. I was starting to formally manage projects in my job but still wanted to sit for the PMP exam. I included my past activities (in both work and community activities) where I performed project management related tasks.

Ofcourse, feel free to call PMI and ask for their guidance.

Hope that helps!

A: As Andy mentioned below, you will have to do some research to see if your Project would qualify for the 4500 hours

However, upon graduation you will be eligible to sit for the CAPM, Certified Associate of Project Management. To apply for the CAPM, you need to have:
A secondary diploma (high school or the global equivalent)
AND
At least 1,500 hours experience OR 23 hours of project management education

Your college graduation project might qualify, if it does not, your college might offer a Project Management course that meets the 23 hours of project managment education
