Antioxidants, Foods We Love, And Why They Are Natures Miracle!

You've seen it when an apple turns brown, or your car starts to rust. This is oxidation and it's happening each second in our bodies. It might not seem right that we oxidize, but it does happen. The good news is, nature has provided us with a solution. Molecules called natural antioxidants. Foods like fruits and vegetables, especially dark colored ones are abundant sources of these mini miracles. This is really important information because the root cause of over 70 chronic degenerative diseases is oxidative stress. One of the main causes of oxidation is free radical molecules

What exactly is a free radical? Simply put, they are unstable molecules. Normal molecules are paired atoms that sit together bonded and stable. They share equal amounts of electrons and protons. However if one electron is lost or damaged, suddenly they become very unstable and go on the prowl until the situation is remedied and they are stable again. Free radicals steal electrons by colliding with a stable atom until it breaks apart and then the needed electron can be taken. These electrons can come from anywhere, fat, protein or DNA. This causes a lot of slow damage. It's a chain reaction unrivaled by any riotous group mentality. When fighting free radicals, foods are an excellent defense.

To summarize, molecules need equal amounts of electrons, and if they lose just one, they are unpaired and will fight to fix it, causing oxidation. This is where the amazing natural antioxidants come to the rescue. Oxidation is a normal process and must happen, but when there is too much, problems arise. Here is a fun way to look at it. Compare it to a fireplace with no screen in front of it. Nice warm fire, right? Maybe the first fire causes a spark that shoots out and it burns a tiny hole in your carpet. Not a good thing but probably not too big of a deal, but what happens after years of fires in your fireplace? Now your carpet has big holes in it. Fire still feels nice and keeps you warm, but the carpet is unsightly and damaged. This is what is happening in your body. Antioxidants, foods and drinks that are rich in them, and all around good nutrition are the fire-screen that keeps the fire inside the fireplace and the embers off the carpet.

Natural antioxidants are molecules that share electrons without a fuss and won't fight to find another one to replace it. They are givers and it's their job to share. They literally neutralize unstable free radicals! Foods we eat are the best source, and the more of them we eat the better. The bottom line is, we absolutely need antioxidants. Vegetables and fruits are good for you, Mom was right!
