Are You Rating Skincare Products?

Do you know what criteria should be used for rating skincare products?  First, the ingredients should be safe.  They should not be common allergens or irritants.  They should be effective anti aging skincare solutions, because no one wants to look older before their time.  That’s not the criteria that everyone uses for rating skincare products, but it should be.  Here’s why.

Cosmetic companies are allowed to use just about anything.  They companies work under the out-dated assumption that compounds do not penetrate through the skin’s outer layer.  But, the skin is more like a sponge than a barrier.  It absorbs everything that you put on it.

Aging skincare creams sometimes contain very hazardous ingredients.  Estradiol, which is the synthetic form of the hormone estrogen, is a common ingredient.  Cow placenta and amniotic fluid, both of which are loading with hormones, are commonly used as well.

The purpose of those hormones is to “plump up” the skin’s layers, stretching out wrinkles and fine lines.  But, hormones are known to penetrate the skin and interrupt natural metabolic processes, as well as natural production of hormones.  Certain cancers are sensitive to those hormones and only grow when they are present.  So, don’t buy an aging skincare solution that contains them.  It’s just not safe.

Cosmetic companies are allowed to include ingredients that have not been tested for safety.  Someone else has to prove that they are hazardous, before the manufacturers will stop using them.  But, rating skincare products for safety is not that difficult, because the manufacturer must include warning labels, indicating that the solution contains a poison, an irritant or a compound that has not been tested for safety.  So, when you go to buy aging skincare solutions, skip the ones that bear those warning labels.

Rating skincare products for effectiveness is easy, if you know which compounds have been proven effective in clinical trials.  Some of the compounds that have been proven effective include functional keratin, coenzyme Q10, wakame kelp, avocado oil and Shea butter.  Those are all safe and natural, as well.

Functional keratin is an amino acid complex that the skin’s cells can use to absorb moisture.  In clinical studies, creams containing it have been shown to stimulate the production of new cells, increase the skin’s moisture content and increase the skin’s ability to retain moisture.  The creams will reduce redness caused by irritation, help lighten age spots and improve firmness by as much as 40%.

Aging skincare creams containing coenzyme Q10 have been shown to reverse sun damage, improve moisture content and reverse wrinkling.  Coenzyme Q10 is a potent antioxidant naturally present in the skin’s cells, but the amount declines with age.

Wakame kelp inhibits enzymatic activity that breaks down hyaluronic acid, one of the skin’s important compounds.  Avocado oil has been shown to reduce age spots and increase the skin’s collagen content.  Shea butter has been used for years to fade wrinkles, scars, stretch marks and age spots.

Now that you’re armed with this information, rating skincare products should be easier for you.  Just make sure that the solutions you choose meet the criteria here, before you buy.
