Laser Skin Tightening - Non Surgical Lifting Treatment

Sagging and loose skin is a major problem in both men and women throughout the world. People can develop lax skin as a result of the aging process, pregnancy, and weight loss. Unfortunately, once the skin loses elasticity, there are few treatments options. One of the only effective, non-surgical ways to treat loose skin is with laser skin tightening. Laser skin tightening is a non-surgical treatment in which dermatologists use an infrared light to tighten the skin. Collagen that lies beneath the skin's surface heats up, causing it to contract and tighten.

Advantages

Laser skin tightening is the relatively risk free compared to cosmetic surgery procedures that require the creation of an incision, and, in many cases, use of general anesthesia. Another benefit of treatment is that firmness of the skin is noticeable within days of undergoing the procedure. Laser skin tightening can be done on almost any part of the body, including the face, neck, abdomen, arms, and legs.

Risks

The risks associated with the laser procedure include redness of the skin, swelling in some areas, bruising, blistering, and changes in pigmentation. People who are on certain medications, prone to scarring, or pregnant are not good candidates for treatment. Patients that have had skin cancer in the last and those who are prone to herpes breakouts may not be good candidates for treatment should consult a doctor for more information.

Recovery

The majority of patients that undergo laser skin treatments recover in less than a week.

Cost

Laser skin tightening is generally less expensive than other surgical procedures such as tummy tuck, breast lift, or facelift.

Patients that are interested in improving the appearance of their skin should have a detailed discussion with their doctor before undergoing treatment. Your complete medical history and present health conditions should be reviewed by a certified dermatologist before any procedure is performed.

Over the last several years, one focus of aesthetic medical technology has been on a means for improving fine wrinkles and lines on the face without prolonged "downtime." This is often referred to as non-invasive collagen remodeling. This has traditionally been accomplished with laser peels (carbon dioxide, erbium) or deep chemical peels (phenol, high-concentration TCA), which resurface the skin by creating a second-degree burn.
