Smile Lines – Causes, Treatment, and Prevention

Smile lines make your face look aged. A lot of people, even people in their 20s and 30s, seem to have this problem. What causes this problem? Can it be treated? More importantly, can it be prevented? Let us try to find the answers to all these questions.

Causes

If you have smile lines, it means that your skin is saggy and wrinkled. There are two very important reasons why this happens – the loss of hyaluronic acid and the loss of collagen and elastin. If your skin does not have enough hyaluronic acid, it becomes thin and dry. Soon, it becomes crinkled. Similarly, when your skin does not produce enough collagen and elastin, it loses its elasticity and becomes saggy. As a result, your skin starts developing wrinkles and lines. So, the loss of these substances, without a doubt, is the most important cause of skin problems in both men and women.

Treatment

There are plenty of treatment options available for smile lines. Some of the common options include Botox injections, collagen injections, and anti aging skin creams. The first two options are pretty costly and could cost you hundreds of dollars. They give instant results, but the results are temporary. The effect of these shots lasts only for about four months. The third option, anti aging products, is usually considered the best choice by many.

How to go about it?

If you are thinking of getting Botox shots or collagen fillers, you need to consult a good dermatologist first. If you choose the third option to treat smile lines, you need to choose a good anti aging product first. There are a number of products available today, but only a handful of products are actually good. Organic products in general are considered a better option than products that contain artificial chemicals since they do not cause any harmful side effects and are pretty safe to use.

Prevention

There are a number of things you can do to prevent smile lines and other such skin problems. You can do some facial exercises which can increase blood flow to your mouth and cheek areas and improve your muscle tone. You should eat a healthy diet. Most importantly, you should use a  good skin care product which can rejuvenate your skin cells, prevent cellular damage, improve the production of collagen and elastin, and keep your skin young, firm, and healthy for a long time.
