Tumescent Liposculpture: Shaping the Body Artistically

Posted: Dec 01, 2010 |Comments: 0 |

Tumescent Liposculpture is an advanced technique that permanently removes excess fat in areas resistant to diet and exercise. The surgeon is able to artistically sculpt the body into a new shape while the patient is awake by using Tumescent local anesthesia and smaller, more delicate instruments.

"It's safer than liposuction because the patients are awake," explains Dr. Rhett Jabour (Dr. Rhett), an anti-aging specialist and Interventionalist based in New Mexico. With traditional liposuction, a patient has all of the risks associated with general anesthesia and is out of work for 5-6 weeks. Tumescent Liposculpture, alternately, is performed under a local anesthesia and the patient can go back to work within a couple of days.

Liposculpture is more about shaping the body than it's about losing weight.

"Losing weight is very good for you and it actually extends your life," says Dr. Rhett. "Weight loss improves your health. Exercise is one of the best things you can do to benefit your vascular health, as it aids the hormones and blood flow and adds years to your life."

With Liposculpture, fat cells are removed only from the treated area; therefore, without good eating habits and an active lifestyle, weight could still be gained in other areas. There may be a few cells left behind in the treated area that also could expand if the patient does not change their eating habits and follow an exercise plan.

"If people eat more calories than they burn or have high insulin levels, they'll put weight on in other areas that I did not Liposculpt," confirms Dr. Rhett.

If a patient is significantly overweight, Dr. Rhett puts them on a special diet to get them down into the range within 20% of their ideal weight, then uses Liposculpture to complete the shaping process.

"Most diets will give you a low glycemic index," explains Dr. Rhett. "With this diet, a hormone is used that works with the brain to reduce appetite. It also works with the body to reduce fat cells by using the patient's own fat storage while leaving the muscle mass alone." This is a hormone that the patient can take daily while on a low calorie diet. "They don't hunger and they use their own fat storage as energy." The patient will lose about one pound per day and the diet lasts between 23 to 40 days, depending on how much weight the individual wants to lose.

Not all of Dr. Rhett's Liposculpture patients are in need of weight loss, though.

"I've had patients who weren't overweight at all, but they had a little pocket of fat somewhere and desired a more streamlined look. In that scenario, the Liposculpture procedure is solely cosmetic."

By combining art with medicine, Dr. Rhett is able to shape people's bodies and ultimately, improve their quality of life.

The differences between Bio-Identical Hormone Therapy and the more traditional Synthetic Hormone Therapy. Sermorelin (Bio-Identical) is designed to stimulate the pituitary gland's hormone growth hormone production. Once your body produces more human growth hormone, Sermorelin will also stimulate your liver's IGF-1 (insulin growth factor). Due to higher levels of IGF-1 will result in an increase in new cell growth and metabolism.

When I began in the public relations world over twenty years ago (that's daunting), I quickly realized that landing an interview or a story for a client was only a part of the process. After having producers and editors give me some tough but needed feedback about clients who were either boring or were too pushy, I realized that in order to achieve real PR success, media training was needed. That's when I brought on Ann Convery.

When it comes to PR and medical-oriented media relations, remember, your best stories are patient success stories. Yes, as the physician you're the expert and the educator, but it's your patient stories that in turn will tell your story. Utilizing medical-oriented public relations can serve several purposes, it can build your practice and educate and inform the public. By getting this information to the public through the media you can improve and, in some cases, save lives.
