How to Shoot A Bow And Arrow-Archery Technique And Tips

Posted: Dec 16, 2010 |Comments: 0 | Views: 107 |

First, consistency is key. The problem with archery is that after every shot, we have to notch another arrow. We often shift our feet around, alter our grip on the bow, and notch the arrow in a different spot on the string for each shot. Shooting a bow is like taking a foul shot in basketball. Why do professional basketball players bounce the ball the same number of times before taking the foul shot?

The key is to repeat the exact same motion for every shot. Use the same footwork, the same power, and go through the same basic motions. If you scratch your head before one shot, you better scratch your head before the second shot too.

Practice shooting at a target. Your stance should be similar to a baseball player up to bat, pretending the target is the pitcher.  Almost all beginner archery students hold the bow to low. When you pull the string back, your right hand (assuming you are right-handed) should almost be touching your ear.

When you shoot the target, don't worry about getting a bulls-eye. It is much more important to strive at hitting all your arrows in the relatively same area. Once you build up your consistency, that is when you need to worry about hitting the mark. If you hit the mark once, and the rest of your shots are consistent, then you are going to keep hitting the mark!

My final reccomendation is a guide I found online that I use to help coach my students. This is not my guide, and I am not paid to share it with you, but the information in here will work wonders for your shot. It is definitely worth the price. Click the image below to find out more.

Archery has been around for thousands of years. The Greeks, Romans, British and Germans used archery as a means of defense and when hunting as a means of survival. The oldest known arrow was located in Denmark. The ancient archer or bowman used an arrow made of a pine shaft and a flint point arrowhead. When firearms were developed and used more readily in the place of the bow and arrow it became less a weapon of survival and more a piece of equipment for recreation.
