Ballet New England

Walnut Hill School, in Natick, MA, is a private, college preparatory high school where gifted national and international ballet students can combine their academic talents with their passion for their art. The school offers programs in ballet, music, theatre, visual art, and writing & publishing.

Ballet students receive a strong foundation in the basics, and are exposed to a variety of dance techniques, including tap, jazz, modern, and other styles, in addition to ballet. New England offers these students the opportunity to take advantage of some of the finest educational and cultural institutions in the world; students have many opportunities to view the many professional styles of ballet that New England has to offer.

Ballet faculty members at Walnut Hill are professional dancers who understand the importance of technique, strength training, and performance.  In addition, faculty members take each dancer’s individuality into consideration and prepare students with life skills as well as dance preparation.

Ballet students study on the beautiful 30-acre campus, and boarding students live in one of eight residence halls.  In addition to the many state-of-the-art facilities on campus, dancers can take advantage of five large studios, dressing rooms, a costume shop, a campus fitness center, and a professional-level performance theatre.

Notable Walnut Hill alumni include Melanie Atkins Varga ’91 (Boston Ballet), Anthony Pina ’05 (Alberta Ballet), Joe Walsh ’06 (Houston Ballet), Breanne Starke ’04 (Kansas City Ballet), and David Prottas ’05 (New York City Ballet).  Other ballet graduates have gone on to join Alvin Ailey American Dance Theatre, Ballet Memphis, Joffrey Ballet Ensemble, Paul Taylor Dance Company, Twyla Tharp Dance, and other internationally known companies.
