Could This Really be Farewell to Drake Hogestyn on ‘days of our Lives?’

After 21 years as John Black on the long-running daytime soap, Days of Our Lives, Drake Hogestyn finally bade farewell to his character. Despite the reassurance a couple of months ago from Days of Our Lives that Hogestyn had not been “let go” from the series, John Black was still killed off on the soap midway last month.

The shocking demise of one of the most well-liked characters on Days of Our Lives provided the proverbial and literal final nail on the coffin of what has been an ongoing question in the minds of the daytime drama’s fans.

For the most part of the year, Hogestyn had been rather vocal about his displeasure and discontent over a lack of storyline involving his onscreen persona.

"At some point, everybody is going to leave the show," Hogestyn said at a fan event in June. "I have six months left on my contract, so… After 20 years of throwing fan club gatherings, this is the final mission. The reality of it is, sooner or later, you're at the tail [end] of your talent cycle, whether it be here or somewhere else."

However, sometime in September, a spokesperson for the show told soapcentral.com that "Drake Hogestyn has not been let go."

So when John Black bit the dust in a fatal and dramatic hit and run mishap, Days of Our Lives followers were as stunned and shocked as Deidre Hall’s Marlena Evans was when John eventually breathed his last.

Of course, in the realm of television and Days of Our Lives, dead may not always be forever.

In related news, other cast members still alive, kicking and standing were slated to take part in a daylong event for the benefit of the Childhood Cancer Lifeline. Lauren Koslow (Kate Roberts), Darin Brooks (Max Brady), Martha Madison (Belle Black), Judi Evans (Adrienne Johnson; ex-Bonnie Lockhart), Matthew Ashford (ex-Jack Devereux), Brandon Beemer (Shawn Douglas Brady) and Nadja Bjorlin (Chloe Lane) were on the bill for a meet and greet as well as an evening with the stars at the Downtown Hartford Marriott in Hartford on October 27.

Reputation Managers Offers Corporate Reputation Defense

Gossip and lies seem to have a momentum all their own, and, like a locomotive, are difficult to stop. To paraphrase a quote from Francisco S. Tatad, writing on political affairs for the NY Times, “If you want unverified gossip passed on as truth,…if you want a person’s private fault reported as public fact,…if you want the most inconsequential nonsense blown up into an earthshaking event, you will find no shortage of it.”
