Curb Painting For Beginners

Painting your address on the curb in front of a house or business is not a new concept. It has probably been around since the advent of parking spaces, and furthermore, the lack of them. Painting an address in front of your door specifies that the parking spot belongs to the addressee. An ownership of curb space can help any person or business to be assured that your guests or customers are able to park near your front door. For the city, street addresses on curbs help police and firefighters navigate in critical situations when time is of the essence. Now days, address curb painting is being used to collect donations from a community for a charity. It is also a great summer job for students and adults alike, since it does not require many materials, or much training. If you are considering collecting donations for a charity, starting your own curb painting business, or hiring someone to paint your curb, please pay attention to the following information.

If you are trying to acquire donations for your charity, curb address painting is a great idea. It can help people to meet their neighbors and create more of a community in the area. Also, people tend to get more involved and donate more if there are people around noticing. Make sure that you are absolutely clear about what the expectations are for the curb painting and explain it to your customers. Then you should check with your municipality for any rules or requirements to pass flyers and paint curbs in your area. Secondly, make a flyer telling people who you are, what the purpose is, what the charity is, and what day and time it will be happening.

Once you are ready to paint, remember to always use good outdoor oil based paint, one that is reflective and bright. Rust-o-leum Painter's Touch Multipurpose Paint is the usual choice by laymen and tradespeople alike. Whether you paint with a brush, roller, or spray can is your choice.

Next, prep the curb to be painted. Is the previous paint flaking or stripped? If so, a pressure washer, or strong garden hose should do the trick. If not, it may be necessary to have a sandblaster. Do not paint over flaking paint, this will cause the paint to flake even more, and make a huge mess. If the curbs are bare, sweep them of any dust, dirt or debris. You will need number stencils, some people are picky about fonts but keeping one consistent font creates a nicer, more cohesive work. Once you have painted the curb be sure to use signs and barricades to protect the work as well as warn the community to be careful stepping. Sometimes people do not pay attention, and common sense goes out the window. Children playing, or the family dog or cat can cause a lot of havoc and headache as well, so try to keep them busy in another area.

If you are interested in starting a curb painting business, there are many things to consider. Curb painting is not as easy of a business venture as many websites make it out to be. It does take a bit of training and practice to achieve a professional look. It won't cost a fortune if you are painting everything by hand, but this practice leads to sloppy, unprofessional jobs. Your business relies on looks and word of mouth, if the work doesn't impress you will fail. Also, once you have successfully perfected your craft, consider expanding to include parking lot striping. You will have a larger clientele base and there will be a more constant flow of work.

As I previously stated, curb painting may seem like an easy job, but it involves much more than you may think. Remember to check all of the laws pertaining to the area your business or home is in, know what colors or fonts are best for visibility, and know your materials. Practice always makes perfect in any job, so try to find someone who is willing to give their curb for practice.
