The Red Sox won the AL East for the first time in 11 seasons. Postseason 1988, Joe Morgan took over as GM and the club won 12 games in a row, in what is referred to till date as ‘Morgan Magic’.

During the 1990s period, the Red Sox had some success, but were unable to return to the caliber of a World Series’ team. Yet the 1996 season had its individual highlights. Roger Clemens tied his major league record. Tony Armas, Jr. and Carl Pavano were the star players in this period.

Year 2002, saw Epstein become the youngest general manager in the history of the Major Leagues. The Red Sox faced the St. Louis Cardinals again in the 2004 World Series and went on to win the game, notching its first World Series in 86 years with some terrific playing. Theo Epstein became the General Manager. As the GM, Epstein restocked the team for 2007.
