Hitler’s Thoughts About the Difference Between Austrian Germans and Germans of Germany Proper
Hitler describing in his book about Franco-Prussian and Franco-German war, talks about Bismarck who against forming an alliance with the South Germans, but despite this joined the Alliance with Austria-Hungary. He did this to eradicate a possible Austro breakdown which would surely make him annex Austria and in that way bring the ethnic South Germans into Reich. Bismarck was the representative of nationalist thinking, and that kind of thinking was extremely popular in German political landscape of the 1920s. Hitler read many periodicals concerning this theme, trying to define in his own mind the difference between the South Germans and Germans of Germany Proper. He came to a simple conclusion that not all Germans had luck to be a part of the Iron Reich of Chancellor Bismarck, but after having made such conclusion Hitler at the same time started thinking, that all Germans should live in one state.
This feeling of nationalism which Hitler continues to describe in his book was strengthened while going to school father has forced him to attend, it is called Realschule (Secondary School). Saying that one of his most favorite subjects was history and applying to the high marks he had in this subject, he pointed at the fact he became nationalist at school. This fact belongs to the half-truths concerning his biography which Hitler performed in his book Mein Kampf, because he was an average pupil in Secondary School mostly owing to his own idleness toward his school work. However, irrespective of Hitler’s marks in history, he nevertheless had deep knowledge of history in general and of events which were particularly interesting to him, German history and Chancellor Bismarck. In this part of the book Hitler starts going deep in his reflections about the difference between the South Germans and Germans of Germany Proper.
