There are a lot of things you find inside the office. These are mundane things that you sometimes just overlook because they are just there when you need them. Among these things is paper. Paper is just everywhere. I cannot imagine an office without reams of paper stashed in their cabinets. Boxes made of card is another thing, together with papers you will see inside the supply room or in the cabinet, card boxes of different sizes containing different materials for work.
Imagine going to the office one day and you are about to print a lot of documents. You checked the printer, toner is good, and ink is good, printer in tip top shape. You checked on the printer's tray and you found out that there is no more paper. So you head to the supplies room or to your cabinet to get some papers. As you open the door, you realized that the spot for papers is empty, no more supplies of paper. How frustrating is that? The reason why I'm saying is we've had this experience several times at work.
We scrimmage the card box but can't find any sign of fresh paper. On a bigger card box though, we found mountains of used bond paper. Those that have printing errors and several others that was just disposed for no reason at all. Probably when disposing the used ones, the papers got stuck together and the person doing the printing didn't mind segregating it.
The bottom line is, there are things in life that we just take for granted because they are just there readily available. At the end of the day, once they're gone you start missing them. True enough, you'll never miss the water until it's gone but do we really have to wait for such time until we learn our lesson?
Paper is just everywhere but did we ever think that with each piece of paper is a tree that sacrificed its life for us to have something to print, write, scribble or doodle on? Maybe I'm just magnifying things that are too trivial and doesn't have that much bearing with our day to day living but when you are in the position that you need something and can't that simple thing, you'll know what I mean.
So we spent that day salvaging those papers that are still ok and even reusing those that can still be used. That was the start of our Go Green Project at the office. It took a day for us to learn the value of the small things we take for granted.
