Russell Hantz's Whirlwind Survivor Career
As he burned socks, purposely made his tribemates miserable, and manipulated those around him, he became the biggest villain the show had known since Johnny Fairplay. He is so popular, that he was asked to come back to play in the third season in the past four seasons. Survivor: Samoa
When Survivor: Samoa begain, he shocked the world (and his tribemates) with his antics. His strategy was to make his tribemates miserable. From the first episode, he played the role of bad guy. He drummed up sympathy with his tribemates by telling a heroic story about how he had survived Hurricane Katrina and saved his dog in the process, even though he had never owned a dog or lived in New Orleans before. He burned Jaison's socks and dumped all of his tribemate's canteens. For the rest of the season, he manipulated his tribemates. Although he made it to the top two, he was so hated that he only received two votes (Natalie White received seven for the win).
Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains
After it became apparent that Russell was one of the biggest Survivor villains ever, he was asked to take part in Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains. He must have been asked to return before Samoa even finished filming, because he only had 12 days to recover between the end of Survivor Samoa and the time filming began for the next season; this was the shortest recovery time ever for a repeating player, because CBS was filming back-to-back seasons in Samoa to save money.
Russell played on the villains team, but nobody knew who he was. While many of the other returning players had played together before, or at least watched how the other people behaved in prior seasons, Russell was an unknown. He used this to his advantage. Although Russell didn't burn any socks, he tried to make final 2 alliances with almost everyone (never intending on keeping his promises) and convinced his tribemates to get rid of people that weren't on his good side. Because the rest of the Villains didn't know about his past, he was able to gain trust that he otherwise wouldn't have had. He made it to the finale again, but didn't receive a single vote for the million dollars.
Survivor: Redemption Island
In the spring of 2011, Russell Hantz will once again have a chance to try for the million dollars. He will be the leaders of one of the two new tribes on Survivor: Redemption Island. This time, Russell won't have the advantages that he originally had. The others will know that he is not to be trusted. They might want to keep him around for a little while to help him out with the challenges, but they will also know that there will be a point where they will want to get rid of him.
