We all meander through life in our comfort zones with a happy little smile on our face. Every so often, however, we have to face a decision that will have ramifications for a very long time. In the world of tats, one decision that everyone faces is whether they should go covered or uncovered.
Okay, just what are we talking about here? Covered? Uncovered? The use of the word refers to whether you will get tattoos that can be covered by clothing or not. A tattoo on your back, even a huge one, is a covered tat. When the rat race calls, you can go to "drive a desk" during the day from 9 to 5 with nobody the wiser since you are wearing a shirt and, in some cases, an undershirt just to be safe.
Ah, but you’re a rebel with a cause! You'd rather live free or die! With this in mind, you'll not only get an uncovered tattoo…you'll get one that blazes like a lighthouse light warning of ships in the midst of a bad storm. You'll get a brightly colored tat on your face, neck or head! Well, that's certainly an uncovered tat, but is it a good decision now and in the future?
Only you can make the decision on covered versus uncovered tats. I like both. Both have there place. That being said, you need to think through uncovered tats. While they may seem great now, how about when you are forty? Believe it or not, but my accountant has a tat of a phoenix that runs down his arm and onto the back of his hand. Got it in Asia while on shore leave in the Navy. He hates it because every client sees it and comments on it. He thinks he's lost clients because of it.
Does this mean you shouldn't get an uncovered tat? Of course, not. It might be a great decision, or it might not. The point I am trying to make is that you should really think through whether you are going to like having it now and 20 or 30 years in the future. You can get tats removes, but it is expensive and painful. Making the best choice up front seems a better move.
