Ten Things You May Not Know About Michael Buble

Michael Bublé kicks off the first leg of his Crazy Love Tour March 10, 2010 in Orlando, Florida. He'll tour the states until April 9. After a concert in Los Angeles, the crooner will hop the pond and begin a trek across Europe.

Bublé is everyone's favorite new singer of old songs, including your mother, your aunt, your grandmother, and all of her friends. Nonetheless, the big band singer has sold tens of millions of albums as well as thousands of Michael Buble tickets.

Yet, how well do we really know this guy? Sure, we're all familiar with his silky voice, his debonair stage presence, his countless hits, and even a few of the women he's slept with, but beyond that the man is enigma (either that or we're all too busy to Google him).

To shed some light on the mysterious jazz singer here's 10 things you may not know about Michael Bublé...

•Bublé is Canadian - Yes, it's a shock. He was born in Burnaby, British Columbia in 1975. He's the oldest of three children and his father was a salmon fisherman (that's so Canada).

•White Christmas - The Bublé family first realized Michael had the gift of song when he was 13 and sang a little ditty that had just reached the shores of Canada. That song was "White Christmas," the same tune made famous by American crooner Bing Crosby. That family performance ignited Michael's passion for performing and rest, as they say, is history.

•Vancouver Giants - Bublé is part owner of a junior ice hockey team called the Vancouver Giants. Also included in the ownership group is hockey legend Gordie Howe and Edmonton Oilers coach Pat Quinn (both of whom sing a mean "Cry Me a River "). The Giants play teams from Chilliwack, Kamloops, and Kelowna as well as a team from the ridiculously named city of Seattle.

•Prime Minister Mulroney - Bublé's career was greatly aided by Canadian Prime Minister Brain Mulroney. In 2000, Bublé sang at the wedding of the Prime Minister's daughter, Caroline. There he met legendary producer David Foster who eventually signed Bublé to a recording contract.

•$500,000 - Foster had been reluctant to sign Bublé because he didn't know how to promote the Canadian crooner. When Foster finally relented he gave Bublé's one caveat--he had to raise $500,000 to cover the production cost of his debut album. Somehow Bublé raised the money. Later, Foster changed him mind and covered the production costs out of his own pocket.

•27-years-old - No, that's not the average age of the songs in Bublé's repertoire, or the average age of his fans' grandchildren, that's how old he was when his debut album was released. That's quite ancient for a pop star even one known for singing standards. Before his recording career took off, Bublé had a reputation as a hard worker. He seldom turned down a gig even if it was a Bublé show in Philadelphia.

•Lebanon - All artists want to dominate the album charts in the United States. After that it's the U.K. Being a Canadian, Bublé certainly wants to do well on the charts belonging to his own country (which are written on the back of bear hides). However, the Burnaby-born singer's debut album cracked the top ten in of all countries, Lebanon. Music is truly universal.

•"I Want To Believe" - Bublé has done some acting in his day. He's appeared in the movies "Duets," "Totally Blonde," and the Bravo! documentary Big Band Boom! However, his best role came in 1996 when he appeared in two episodes of the X-files. He played a submarine sailor. Trust no one.

•Songwriter - We don't associate song writing with Bublé, after all he's one of the few singers who can get away with singing other people's work. Still, he has co-written four songs that he also recorded and put on his last two albums: "Lost" and "Everything" from his 2007 release, Call Me Irresponsible; and "Haven't Met You Yet" and "Hold On" from his 2008 offering, Crazy Love.
