Film and musical posters can hold so much appeal. But just what is so attractive about this art form? Possibly because they tune into our nostalgic side or they simply remind us how much we loved the film. Sometimes it’s their quirky nature which just makes us smile.

Collecting movie photo art
Just search websites using words like ‘film and music posters’ and you’ll be surprised by the websites and UK collectors selling or buying what was created as film or musical poster publicity.

UK Quad poster art sizes
You may notice phrases like ‘UK Quad’ or ‘British Quad’ and ‘Lobby card’ or ‘UK Front of House’ on websites selling these art pieces. These refer to the poster size - with the lobby and front of house poster sizes indicating that the film or musical poster was placed in cinema foyers.

If you’re interested in buying a film or musical poster - you can buy some interesting artwork and even set yourself up for an investment opportunity. Find out more about the history of this artform and collectability issues on the Limelight website.

Sizes, backing and framing
So what do you need to know about vintage movie art pieces?

  • you’ll often see the popular UK Quad size mentioned which measures a standard 30" x 40". These dimensions are also called Quad Crown or Crown Quad

  • it’s best to get your poster linen-backed to help guarantee durability and flexibility. It will also look more professional if you decide to frame it. Otherwise, the poster may get damaged if it stays as loose, folded poster art.

Some experts say that linen-backing can add to investment value too
  • framing. This can enhance poster appearance and help protect your art. If you get the film artwork framed – make sure that the mounting and backing boards and other products used in the framing process are acid-free.

Finally, there’s some wonderful movie, film and musical poster artwork for sale online. These vintage art pieces can add interest, humour and a touch of colour to your house interior or exterior design. Alternatively, you can use this artwork as corporate art – to liven up your workspace.
