The Value of a Current and Natural Actor's Head shot

A great head shot for an actor is so important! I've been hiring models and actors for years for commercial advertising projects and it's so important for an actor's headshot to be current and natural. It should always look like you 'today'!

A good headshot is your calling card, your image - your brand. Take your time slecting the photographer and remember it's not always who's cheapest who is the best selection. You need to feel comfortable with the photographer. And you need to trust them to be able to project yourself for the camera.

Whether you are just starting out or a seasoned professional, you need a current up-to-date image of yourself. The last thing you want to do is to present an inaccurate image of yourself to a director or photographer.

These days both black & white and color are current ways to have your actor's head shot printed. And most photographers will always capture in color then convert the image to B&W in post production, so you can see the difference. Another very popular way to share your actor's headshot is in an email attachment as a pdf or jpg. This way you or your agent can email your image quickly to a possible client.

Headshots can either be shot in the studio or on location, but these days there's a growing trend to shoot on location. It's just more interesting and dynamic. When selecting your photographer, make sure they're interested in working with you to create an interesting image, not just a quick head and sholders shot. Directors and photographers are very visual people, so your photograph should be visually interesting as well as natural!

So whether you're an actor in need of an acting head shot or a model adding to your portfolio, always use a photographer you have a good réport with and that you trust.

cheers,

Dwayne Brown.
