Why Wish Lanterns are so in this Summer

Wish Lanterns are so in, they're the new black. A floating paper lantern seems to sum up the mood and the tone of society's current mood. We are all learning how to get our kicks from other means than reaching into our wallets and spending a wad of cash. Our pleasures are now gained from altogether simpler less vapid, more meaningful things. Our material world is striving to become less material through neccessity.

The wish lantern is one of the cheapest delights. At around three pounds- the cost of a Starbucks coffee these days. You can get the kind of joy and happiness that only comes in pill form. Moreover the launching of a wish lantern is an opportunity to socialise, to gather friends and/or family and let them know just how much they mean to you. What could be more rewarding and fulfilling than venturing to a park with a group of people on balmy summers day, and setting off a wish lantern together. As you all watch it float gently into the day lit sky, it gives everyone the opportunity to think about what they are grateful for in their lives. It is the same kind of therepeutic act as having a minutes silence, yet infinitely more entertaining.

Wish Lanterns have a strange and powerful effect on their beholder. They make you feel as though a chemical change is taking place. An almost undetectable internal shift happens, that soothes the soul and generates possitivity and peace. That is really why the wish lantern is so in this summer. Like doing a race for charity, they make you feel good even as you are doing good for others. What could be more 2009?
