Arya Jambala- Phag pa Zambala

Arya Jambala

Phag pa Zambala

Arya Jambala is one of the many gods of wealth. He is also said to be a manifestation of Avalokitesvara Singe Dra working for the benefit of all sentient beings and is considered to be a protective deity of Buddha Shakyamuni, Vajrapani and Guru Padmasambava.

Once, many an eons ago, jambala took birth in the world known as Hoetzer Jyapa. Meaning a hundred light rays. This was a great wealth where famines, natural calamities and wars were unheard of. Here too, in this most fortunate world, The Buddha Nime Shel propagated the teaching of Mahayoga. During this prosperious life,Jambala prayed fervently, with the noble motivation to help the poor and unfortunate, that he would be reborn as a god of wealth. After this noble life and according to his wishes, He was reborn as a prince in a Kingdom north of Mt. Meru ruled by Vaisravana, one of the chief gods of wealth. Therefore he is said to continue fulfilling his vow to help all sentient beings with his generosity through all times. In certain texts, it is mentioned that Jambala endows his devotees with both material and spiritual wealth, the former actually helping to create the right condition for acquiring the latter.

Jambala manifesting in a semi- wrathful appearance, is depicted sitting upon a moon disc atop a lotus seat with his right leg extended upon a conch. His saffron orange body is adorned with various precious ornaments and a garland of fresh flowers. Jambala is somewhat rotund, his prominent stomach round and protuberant. He holds a bias puraka fruit in his right hand and the gem- producing mongoose in his left as a symbol of unceasing wealth. On the lower right and left side of Jambalaare the black Jambala and Nor Jyun Ma, a goddess of wealth. The fore of Jambala overflows with precious jewels, sparkling with light and rays.

The deep blue sky is clear and expensive to create a sense of capaciousness. The clouds are formed low in the sky, surroundings the nimbus, thus, projecting the main figure of jambala.Darkly tipped clouds radiate into the sky around him, indicating the immense magnetic power Jambala exudes. The intermingling of the pink tinged clouds and the blue clouds also serves to differentiate between the clouds and the sky, as both are blue.
